Our Raw Story
From their childhood years, Jerry and Marlene MacDonald loved dogs and enjoyed the joy, companionship, fun and cuddles that the doggie members of their families lavished.
As an adult, Jerry became a professional in the human food industry. He knew how food was made. He knew the fillers, preservatives and processing techniques that destroyed nutrients in order to make the food look better, keep longer and cost less to produce. Observing the pets and working dogs around him, Jerry saw the health challenges and mounting vet bills. He heard the frustration of people searching for healthier alternatives to the commonly available commercial dog foods.
But, what was that food for dogs? And where could it be found?
Jerry knew that mass-produced kibble and canned food had much of their goodness destroyed through processing. He knew they contained ingredients that dogs’ digestive systems weren’t designed for. But, Jerry also knew that haphazard formulations weren’t the answer and that only raw premium quality, natural ingredients would provide the wholesome nutrition that canine companions deserved.
That’s why the MacDonald family launched West Coast Raw Dog Food in 1995.
Over the years, the West Coast Raw family has grown to include dogs of all breeds and sizes enjoying raw food designed for them so they can live the West Coast lifestyle they deserve.
